Thunder Tyson Sexsmith Earns Second Reebok Hockey

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks, announced in conjunction with the ECHL that Tyson Sexsmith has been named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week, ending Mar. 20.

Sexsmith, 22, was 3-0-0 with one shutout, a 0.97 goals-against average and a .964 save percentage in three appearances last week for the Thunder, who moved into first place in the Pacific Division with an overall record of 34-22-10 for 78 points.

The honor has been awarded to Thunder goaltenders three times this season and it is the second time Sexsmith has won the award this season. He also received the award for the week ending Oct. 24.

Sexsmith made 29 saves in regulation and overtime, and stopped all seven attempts in the shootout, helping lead the Thunder to a 3-2 win over Idaho on Friday. He followed that up with 23 saves the next night, on his 22nd birthday, in a 5-1 victory against the Steelheads and ended the week with 29 saves in a 4-0 win against Idaho on"ˆSunday.

The Priddis, Alberta native has appeared in 12 games for Stockton this season posting a 7-2-2 record with one shutout, a 2.49 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage. He has also seen action in six games with the"ˆWorcester Sharks of the American Hockey League going 2-3-1 with a 2.94 goals-against average and a save percentage of .902.

A third-round selection (91st overall) of the San Jose Sharks in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, he appeared in two games with Kalamazoo in 2009-10 posting a 2-0-0 record, a 2.50 goals-against average and a save percentage of .932 while also appearing in 13 games with Worcester.

Prior to turning pro, he played for Medicine Hat and Vancouver of the Western"ˆHockey League, and is that league's all-time leader with 26 shutouts. He guided Vancouver to the 2006-07 Memorial Cup title.
