Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that forward Andrew Sarauer ["SARR"] has been named the Sher-wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for March 14 - March 20, 2011.

Sarauer, a third year pro from Outlook, Saskatchewan registered ten points (5g-5a) in three games for the Royals last week. All five of his goals came while the Royals were playing with the man advantage, and one of those proved to be the game winner in Reading's 9-2 win over the Elmira Jackals at the Sovereign Center in Reading on Saturday. He began the week with his third pro hattrick (and second as a Royal) in an 8-5 loss for the Royals to Elmira last Friday night. Sarauer is one of only two players in the ten year history of the Royals to register two hattricks with the team. Sarauer followed that with a six point performance (2g-4a) in Saturday's win over the Jackals. He is the only player in team history to register six points in a single game-and he's done it twice. (The last one came in the last game of the regular season last year.) In Sunday's Atlantic Division clinching 2-0 win over the Jackals at First Arena in Elmira, New York, Sarauer assisted on the game winner, which was scored on a four-on-three power play by rookie Denny Urban.

Sarauer, who is currently riding a seven game point streak (9g-5a14pts), leads the Royals with fifty-seven points (23g-34a) in fifty-three games. He has racked up twenty-nine points (12g-17a) in his last twenty-one games. Saruaer, who played four years of college hockey at Northern Michigan University, is playing to a plus-12 (+12) for Reading. He leads the team in power play goals (11ppg), first goals (7fg), and short-handed goals (3g). Sarauer is currently the sixth leading scorer in Royals hockey history with 120 total points (51g-69a) in 124 games over the last two seasons.

Saruaer is the first player from the Royals to win the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week Award this season. This marks the fourteenth time in team history that a Royal has won the award. The others who have won the Player of the Week Award while playing for Reading are: Brendan Brooks, Brian McCullough, Ryan Kinasewich, Mike Pandolfo, Shay Stephenson, Greg Hogeboom, Chris Blight, Ben Gordon (twice), Ryan Cruthers, Stefano Giliati (twice), and Daniel Steiner.

On behalf of Andrew Sarauer a case of pucks will be donated to a Reading youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 23,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.

The Royals return to the ice on Wednesday (March 23 @ 7:05 pm) against the Gwinnett Gladiators at The Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Georgia. The Royals game day broadcast will kick off with the pre-game warm-up show presented by The Works at Wyomissing on the Royals Broadcast Network (WRAW 1340 am in Reading, www.1340wraw.com) at 6:35 pm. You can also catch all of the Royals away games this season on Royals TV exclusively on BCTV courtesy of Boscov's Travel, and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines.
