Keys Take One from Potomac
May 7, 2019 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release
FREDERICK, MD. - Timely pitching and great defense helped the Frederick Keys (14-16) take a 2-1 win from the Potomac Nationals (11-19) on Tuesday night at Nymeo Field. The P-Nats put runners in scoring position in five separate innings but left 12 runners on. The Keys defense helped out on several plays, including diving catches from Kirvin Moesquit and Willy Yahn to save a run. Frederick has now won three straight games for the first time this season.
Potomac broke the scoreless tie in the sixth inning thanks to a lead-off double from Jakson Reetz and Gage Canning's RBI single to claim a 1-0 lead. It looked like Nick Raquet (1-5) was going to finish the sixth after striking out the first two batters he faced but Jomar Reyes worked a nine-pitch walk after falling behind 0-2 in the count to prolong the inning. Raquet then hit J.C. Escarra to put runners on first and second for Trevor Craport, who doubled in the tying run. Carson Teel came on in relief but struggled to throw strikes. He walked the bases loaded and then walked Stuart Levy to force in a run to make it 2-1. That was all the Keys needed the rest of the way.
Key's starter Brenan Hanifee pitched through traffic again but stranded nine runners, including a bases loaded jam in the fifth inning. He finished with five scoreless innings, giving up four hits and three walks with a pair of strikeouts. Richard Bleier (1-0) picked up the win on an MLB Rehab assignment even though he surrendered the lone run to Potomac. Travis Seabrooke and Diogenes Almengo (S, 2) finished the final three innings and kept the P-Nats off the board.
The Keys and P-Nats go at it again on Wednesday, May 8. RHP Michael Baumann (0-2, 3.86 ERA) takes the mound against RHP Andrew Lee (1-1, 4.05 ERA) with first pitch slated for 7:00pm. Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. on frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn radio app.
The Frederick Keys are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and play their home games at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.
