Robert Named Uncle Ray's CL Player of the Month for April
May 7, 2019 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Former Dash outfielder Luis Robert parlayed an incredible stretch to start the season into the Uncle Ray's Carolina League Player of the Month award for April, the league office announced on Tuesday. Robert's award marks the third time in the last four years that a Winston-Salem player has taken home this distinction for the first month of the season. Nick Basto won CL Player of the Month honors in April of 2016, and Micker Adolfo earned the league's April award last year.
Before his promotion to the Double-A Birmingham Barons on April 30, Robert led the Carolina League in batting average (.453), home runs (eight), RBIs (24), on-base percentage (.512), slugging percentage (.920), OPS (1.432), triples (three), extra-base hits (16) and total bases (69). Robert, who is rated the 37th-best prospect in baseball per MLB Pipeline, racked up multiple hits in 12 of his 19 games played with Winston-Salem.
The Cuba native has now earned two Carolina League awards this season. Robert was named Carolina League Player of the Week for the period of April 4-14. During that span, he hit .475 with five homers and posted a 1.025 slugging percentage. Additionally, the Chicago White Sox named Robert the organization's April Minor League Player of the Month for his efforts in Winston-Salem.
The Dash begin a six-game homestand on Tuesday against the Lynchburg Hillcats. The three-game set against Lynchburg will include a Taco Tuesday, a Lowes Foods Thirsty Thursday and a Pups in the Park Night, presented by Handy and Handy Orthodontics.
After their three-game series against the Hillcats, the Dash will host a three-game set against Down East, which includes a Fireworks Friday, a Chick-fil-A Four Pack Night and live music on Saturday, and a Lowes Foods Family Sunday. Kids Run the Bases, powered by New Balance, will take place following Friday, Saturday, and Sunday's games. For tickets and more information, call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
