Keys Bobble Series Finale
June 9, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release
Over the past two evenings the Frederick Keys had been the benefactor of seven unearned runs helped by a struggling Potomac defense. On Thursday night the tables turned. The Nationals scored two unearned runs breaking a 1-all tie to end the Keys magic eight-game winning streak in a 3-1 final at Pfitzner Stadium.
Tied at 1 in the fifth inning, Potomac LF JR Higley hit a ground ball that eluded the grasp of Keys SS Garabez Rosa to set the table. After a wild pitch moved him to second base, Nationals SS Jose Lozada hit a ground ball that took a wild hop whizzing by the right ear of 2B Bobby Stevens for a flukey RBI-single.
Potomac would add an insurance run in a similar way in the seventh inning. Higley grounded a ball to Rosa once more, who tried to play the ball to his backhand side but came up empty. A base hit and a groundout later and Higley was home with the Nationals third run.
Frederick had opportunities through the night as the Keys registered ten hits but could only bring home a run. Its best opportunity was in the first inning. After LF Kipp Schutz plated Stevens with an RBI-single to give the Keys a 1-0 lead, 1B Tyler Kolodny was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Next up was C Adam Donachie, who grounded in to a double play to end the inning. The Keys left nine men on base in the game.
The Keys now head home with a six-game lead in the North with ten games to play in the first half. Friday night Lynchburg comes to town with Keys starter Nick Haughian on the hill. Fireworks will follow the game with first pitch set for 7:00 p.m.
