
Bundy, Townsend Named All-Stars

Frederick, MD - Frederick Keys right-handed pitcher Bobby Bundy and first baseman Tyler Townsend have been named to the Carolina League All-Star Team. The two will represent the league against the California League in the 2011 All-Star Game to take place at John Thurman Field in Modesto, California on Tuesday, June 21st.
Bundy, 21, was named the Orioles Organization Pitcher of the Month for May after he went 3-1 with a 2.93 ERA over five starts in the month. For the season, Bundy is 6-3 with an ERA of 2.73. The Owasso, Oklahoma native currently leads the Orioles farm system in wins, ERA, and strikeouts with 58. Selected by Baltimore in the eighth round of the 2008 draft, Bundy was rated as the 14th best prospect in the Orioles organization entering 2011 by Baseball America.
Townsend, 23, was the first collegiate player selected by the Orioles in the 2009 draft. The Lewes, DE native currently leads the Carolina League with a .317 batting average. Townsend is also second in Carolina League in slugging percentage (.576), tied for second in doubles (19), tied third in home runs (10), and fourth in runs batted in (39). Townsend was also honored earlier this month when he was named the Orioles Organization Player of the Month for May.
The Carolina/California League All-Star Game has been played since 1996. The 2005 Game was played at Harry Grove Stadium featuring players like Ubaldo Jimenez (Rockies), Howie Kendrick (Angels) and Nick Markakis (Orioles). Former Keys that have been selected to play in the All-Star Game include Jayson Werth (1999), Erik Bedard (2001), Nick Markakis (2005), Jake Arrieta (2008), Matt Wieters (2008), Brian Matusz (2009), and Zach Britton (2009).
