Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
Lynchburg, VA- The Carolina League released the roster for the 2011 All-Star Team Thursday afternoon. Three Hillcats will be making the trip to Modesto to represent Lynchburg and the Carolina League for this year's California/Carolina League All-Star Game.
Hillcats' infielders Andrelton Simmons and Joey Terdoslavich, as well as outfielder Todd Cunningham were all named All-Stars for the first time in their professional careers. The three position players are the most from any Carolina League team.
Andrelton Simmons was named the starting shortstop for the Carolina League All-Star Team. Simmons, chosen in the second round of the 2010 draft, leads the Hillcats in hitting with a .315 batting average, good for second in the Carolina League. He is also third in the league in hits, with 67. Simmons went on a 13-game hitting streak from April 25 to May 11. He's the first shortstop to represent Lynchburg on the All-Star team since Brian Bixler in 2006.
Joey Terdoslavich will start at third for the Carolina League. Terdoslavich, a sixth round selection by the Braves in 2010, won the Carolina League Player of the Month for May. His 11 home runs is second-most in the Carolina League. He has hit 18 doubles, which is tied for fourth in the league, and is fifth-best in slugging percentage with a .525 mark. He will be the first Hillcat to play third base for the Carolina League All-Star team since Jim Negrych in 2008.
Todd Cunningham was selected as a reserve outfielder for the Carolina League squad. A second round pick in 2010, Cunningham leads the team, and is fifth in the Carolina League, in runs with 35. He is the first outfielder from Lynchburg to make the team since Miles Durham in 2009.
The annual game between the Carolina League and California League All-Stars will take place at John Thurman Field in Modesto, CA, home of the Modesto Nuts, this year on June 21. Last year the California League beat the Carolina League 4-3 in Myrtle Beach.
