
Kernels Walk-Off for Second-Straight Night

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa. - The Kernels walked off for a win in their second-straight game after a Travis Harrison RBI single in the bottom of the 12th inning broke a tie to down the Kane County Cougars 4-3 on Friday night at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Harrison's game-winner hugged the third base line to bring home Jorge Polanco from second base. Polanco began the inning by drawing a walk. He then went to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Dalton Hicks.
The Kernels had numerous chances in extra frames to end the game earlier. The home team had a runner at third base in both the 10th and 11th innings, but couldn't plate a run until the 12th inning.
Polanco and J.D. Williams both had three hits in the ballgame. Polanco had a pair of doubles while Williams had one double and two RBI triples.
Tyler Duffey was excellent on the mound for the Kernels as he started and pitched into the 8th inning. He allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits while striking out five and walking none. Manuel Soliman (3-1) recorded the win, going one scoreless inning. David Hurlbut allowed only three hits and no runs in over three innings of relief.
The Cougars picked up the early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Bijan Rademacher doubled and then scored on a throwing error by shortstop Niko Goodrum.
The first of two RBI triples by J.D. Williams tied the game 1-1 in the third inning as Jeremias Pineda scored.
The Kernels took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning as Jorge Polanco doubled to lead off the inning and came home on a wild pitch by Kane County starter Dillon Maples.
Kane County used a pair of hits to tie the game 2-2 in the seventh inning. Jeimer Cadelario doubled to begin the inning and scored on a two-out RBI single to center by Marco Hernandez.
Williams tripled home Pineda again in the bottom of the seventh inning to put Cedar Rapids up 3-2. Kane County tied the score 3-3 in the eighth inning on Dan Vogelbach's RBI single that plated Rademacher.
Nathan Dorris (1-1) took the loss in relief for the Cougars. Starter Dillon Maples and reliever Lendy Castillo both went five innings. Maples allowed two runs on two hits while Castillo allowed one run on five hits.
