Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA "" The Peoria Chiefs topped the Clinton LumberKings, 5-1, on Friday night at a rainy Dozer Park. The two teams had to wait out an hour and 13 minute rain delay in the middle of the fifth inning.

Clinton jumped on the board early when Patrick Kivlehan sent the first pitch of the second inning from Tyrell Jenkins out to left for his third home run of the season.

The lead didn't last for long as Peoria scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning. Breyvic Valera's sacrifice fly tied the game at 1-1 and Jacob Wilson's run-scoring double gave Peoria a 2-1 lead.

In the fourth, Chiefs' third baseman Carson Kelly turned around a Scott DeCecco fastball for a two-run homer and a 4-1 lead.

When play resumed in the bottom of the fifth, the Chiefs wasted little time extending the lead. Jochi Ogando retired the first two batters of the inning but Jacob Wilson doubled. A throwing error by Clinton shortstop Brock Hebert allowed the inning to continue. Patrick Wisdom made it hurt when he followed with a run-scoring base hit to make it 5-1.

There were fireworks in the sixth inning when Patrick Kivlehan struck out on half swing and was ejected by home plate umpire Tim Hromada for arguing the call. LumberKings Manager Eddie Menchaca disputed the call and was also ejected.

The offense was quiet the rest of the way as Clinton didn't manage a hit in the final three innings.

The two teams will meet on Saturday for game two of the four-game series. Clinton sends right-hander Victor Sanchez (0-1, 2.53) against Peoria left-hander Kyle Helisek (3-1, 4.18). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM CT at Dozer Park.
