Dayton Dragons News Release

South Bend, Ind.-Seth Mejias-Brean lined a tie-breaking home run to left field in the top of the 10th inning to lead the Dayton Dragons to a 4-3 victory over the South Bend Silver Hawks in the opener of a five-game series on Friday night. The Dragons improved to 14-26 with the win while South Bend fell to 24-13.

Mejias-Brean, who had already collected his fourth straight two-hit night when he stepped to the plate with two outs in the top of the 10th, ran the count to 3-1 before lining his first home run of the season over the left field fence to give the Dragons a 4-3 lead.

South Bend's Kevin Medrano delivered a lead-off single to start the bottom of the 10th, but Dragons catcher Joe Hudson made a great diving catch on a fouled bunt for the first out before Sean Lucas retired the next two batters to close out a Dragons win.

The Dragons took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Zach Vincej singled to center to start the game, stole second, and scored on Seth Mejias-Brean's single to start the scoring. Jesse Winker followed with a two-run home run to left field. It was Winker's sixth homer of the year and second in the last two nights.

South Bend scored in the second when Alex Glenn reached on a bad hop double and scored on an error to make it 3-1. They tied the game with two runs in the eighth inning, setting the stage for Mejias-Brean's 10th inning heroics.

The Dragons finished with nine hits. Mejias Brean was 3 for 5. Winker had a triple to go along with his home run. Jeff Gelalich also had two hits.

Dragons starting pitcher Drew Cisco pitched very well but was not involved in the decision. He worked six innings, allowing three hits and one run with no walks and seven strikeouts. Jesus Adames followed Cisco and tossed one inning, allowing three hits and two runs with one walk. Lucas replaced Adames in the eighth with two runners on base and no one out with the Dragons leading 3-1. Lucas (1-1) allowed both inherited runners to score but went on to pitch three scoreless innings and earn the win. He allowed two hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

The Dragons meet the Silver Hawks in a doubleheader on Saturday in South Bend. The first game will begin at 6:00 p.m. Sal Romano (3-3, 2.93) will start in game one for Dayton against South Bend's Jesse Darrah (3-2, 3.86). In game two, Wandy Peralta (0-4, 5.87) will start for Dayton against J.R. Bradley (2-3, 8.00).
