
Fort Wayne Escapes Lake County with 4-3 Win

Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH) - Fort Wayne (24-15) defeated Lake County (13-25) by a final of 4-3. The TinCaps scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning and won the ballgame. With one out and two on, Stephen Carmon tripled down the right field line and both runners scored. At the time the score was 4-2 TinCaps. They won the game by one run.
Lake County scored first. In the bottom of the first inning, with one out and two runners in scoring position Jeremy Lucas singled home both runners and the score was 2-0 Lake County. Fort Wayne answered with single runs in the second inning and the third inning. Brian Adams got the RBI in the second inning on a ground out. Mallex Smith singled, stole second base, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a groundout by Jeremy Baltz and the game was tied at 2-2 after three innings.
Lake County scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Dorssys Paulino doubled and scored on a single from Jeremy Lucas. It was Jeremy's third RBI of the ballgame and cut the lead to 4-3 TinCaps.
RHP Luis Dejesus (0-4) started for the Captains. Dejesus took the loss. Luis pitched six and one third innings and allowed four earned runs, on six hits and three walks. Dejesus struck out one. Luis Morel entered in relief of Dejesus. Morel pitched two and two thirds innings and walked four and also struck out four.
Fort Wayne sent RHP Zach Eflin (1-3) to the mound. Eflin did not get a decision. Eflin pitched five innings and allowed five hits and two earned runs. He struck out six. Matthew Sheperd (3-0) got the win. Sheperd pitched three innings, allowing two hits one earned run one walk and four strikeouts. Chris Nunn entered in the ninth inning. Nunn got the save, his third of the season, by pitching a scoreless ninth.
Saturday is a 6:30 PM start time and the game will be followed by Saturday Night Fireworks Extravaganza, presented by Monreal Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
Lake County will start LHP Ryan Merritt (1-3, 3.50) and Fort Wayne will counter with RHP Ruben Mejia (2-3, 2.70). The second game of the four game series will begin at 6:30 PM.
