LANSING, Mich. - Solid pitching and some early scoring led the Lansing Lugnuts (15-23) to a 3-1 win over the Great Lakes Loons (14-26) in front of a crowd 12,214 at Cooley Law School Stadium on Friday night.

With the win, the Lugnuts have now won six of their last eight ballgames.

Lansing took a 2-0 lead on a two-run single in the first inning off the bat of Kevin Patterson and added another run on a Christian Lopes single in the third inning to jump ahead 3-0.

It was more than enough offense for the Lugnuts pitching staff.

Starter Ben White (Win, 1-3) twirled his best outing as a member of the Lansing rotation, lasting 5.2 scoreless frames. White allowed just four hits while striking out four and not issuing a single walk.

White gave way to the relief trio of Tucker Donahue, Efrain Nieves and Arik Sikula, who threw 3.1 innings to seal the win.

The Loons did manage to plate a run in the ninth inning against Sikuka, but the right-hander got out of the jam, recording his third save of the season.

Great Lakes starter Miguel Sulburan (Loss, 2-2) pitched well but was outdueled by White. Sulbaran pitched five innings, allowing three early runs on eight total Lansing hits. He struck out six and matched White with no walks issued.

Game two of the four-game series comes at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday night. The Lugs will send southpaw Daniel Norris (0-3, 8.54) against Loons' right-hander Ralston Cash (2-2, 3.97).
