Beloit Sky Carp News Release

DAVENPORT, IA - Seth Streich gave the Beloit Snappers six innings of one-run ball and helped them take down the Quad Cities River Bandits, 3-1, in Midwest League action at Modern Woodman Park on Friday night.

The Snappers now have a record of 22-18 in 2013. Quad Cities now stands at 23-17.

Streich (4-2) did allow a run in the first inning when Carlos Correa (2-4, RBI) singled to score Teoscar Hernandez, but he rendered his opponents helpless for the rest of the evening. While Streich gave up seven hits, he also struck out four and was able to get the River Bandits to ground into two double plays, all to go with only one walk.

Quad Cities' first inning lead was short-lived, thanks to Matt Olson, who lead-off the second with a solo shot off Brian Holmes (3-3) to tie the game, his fifth of 2013. John Wooten (2-4, HR, 2 RBIs, run) repeated the trick in fourth, with a bases empty blast, giving him seven bombs on the season, to nudge the Snappers ahead, 2-1. Wooten added insurance in his subsequent at-bat, with an RBI double, which also doubled the lead.

Starting in the seventh, the job of keeping the score frozen fell to Beloit's bullpen and the first man up was Tucker Healy, who put up a pair of scoreless frames and struck out four. In the ninth, the call went out for Snappers' closer Ryan Dull, who sealed the deal with a perfect ninth for save number five.

These teams will play game two of this series on Saturday, starting at 7:00pm. RHP Derek DeYoung (2-1, 2.73 ERA) is scheduled to take the hill for Beloit against Quad Cities' RHP Vincent Velasquez (3-2, 4.75 ERA).
