Kernels cruise into first place with 8-0 win over Wisconsin

The Cedar Rapids Kernels certainly feel that thirteen is a lucky number as they shut out the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, 8-0, on Thursday night at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The win is the Kernels thirteenth in a row and moves them into a tie with Kane County for first place in the MWL Western Division.

Kernels starter Ryan Chaffee (5-1) held Wisconsin to a hit and struck out six over six scoreless innings. Christian Scholl, Chris Armstrong and Andrew Taylor allowed just one hit over the final three innings working out of the bullpen. Wisconsin starter Wily Peralta (0-1) allowed six runs on five hits and struck out six over 4.2 innings in taking the loss.

Matt Crawford went 4 for 4 with 2 RBI and Adam Younger was 2 for 5 with a HR and 2 RBI. Tyson Auer saw his 13 game hitting streak snapped as he went 0 for 4, but drove in a run on a sac fly. Gabe Jacobo and Angel Castillo each added an RBI.
