June 5, 2009 - Midwest League (MWL1)
South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

Beloit, WI - The Midwest League has announced the rosters for the 2009 All-Star Game in Clinton, Iowa and four Silver Hawks players will be joining the South Bend coaching staff on the Eastern Division squad. Outfielder Brendan Duffy has been named as a starter for the East, while infielder Reynaldo Navarro and pitchers Ryan Cook and T.J. Hose were named as reserves.

South Bend manager Mark Haley will be leading the Eastern Division based on the Silver Hawks being the Division Champs from 2008. Hitting coach Francisco Morales, pitching coach Erik Sabel, trainer Brian Czachowski, and strength coach Vaughn Robinson will round out the staff for the Eastern Division All-Stars.

The Midwest League All-Star game is being played at Alliant Energy Field in Clinton, Iowa on June 23rd. The field staff for the Clinton LumberKings will head up the Western Division All-Stars. Due to the unbalanced divisions, the Peoria Chiefs will play as part of the East All Stars to even the teams.

Duffy has been in the top ten in the Midwest League in batting for most of the season. He currently leads the Silver Hawks with a .321 batting average, .415 on-base percentage, and 12 stolen bases. Duffy was drafted in the 41st round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft from Oral Roberts University and is the younger brother of Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Chris Duffy.

Navarro was ranked as the 10th best prospect in the Arizona Diamondbacks system according to Baseball America prior to the 2009 season. He was selected in the third round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft from Puerto Rico. He is batting .221 with 13 RBI this season.

Cook began the season on fire, winning five of his first six starts and turning in a quality start in each one (six innings or more, three runs or less). After developing a blister on his pitching hand, Cook has lost each of his last two starts, but still leads the Silver Hawks with five wins. He was a 27th Round Selection in June 2008 from the University of Southern California.

Hose has been the most consistent reliever for South Bend this season, posting a 1-1 record with a 1.61 ERA in 15 games. The right-hander from East Carolina has six saves in seven opportunities, and has struck out 23 batters in 22.1 innings. He was selected in the 36th Round in 2008.
