COMSTOCK PARK -The Great Lakes Loons pounded out 20 hits Friday night in a 16-4 romp over the West Michigan Whitecaps in front of 10,026 fans, the largest crowd of the season at Fifth Third Ballpark.

Jaime Pedroza started the scoring with a 2-run homer (8th) in the first inning off Whitecaps starter and loser, Luke Putkonen (3-2, 3.65). Pedroza hit for the cycle, adding a triple in the 3rd, a single in the 5th and a double in the 7th inning. Every hitter in the Loons lineup had at least one hit, and all but one scored at least one run in the lopsided victory. Pedroza and Matt Wallach each had four hits, Anthony Hatch had three.

The Loons sent 10 men to the plate in a five run 5th inning and 9 men to the plate in a five-run 7th inning to break the game wide open. The Loons were 10-21 with runners in scoring position.

Luis Salas homered for the Whitecaps, his 3rd of the season. Brandon Douglas and Ronnie Bourquin each had 3 hits in the game. Brent Wyatt went 0-4 and saw his 18-game hitting streak come to an end when he was hit by a pitch with two outs in the 9th inning.

Geison Aguasviva got the win in relief (2-0, 0.00). He went 4 innings in relief of starter Josh Walter and gave up no runs on two hits. He walked one and struck out four.

The Whitecaps will open a 5-game series in Lansing Saturday night. Game time is 7:05pm. The Whitecaps will play a doubleheader Sunday afternoon, single games on Monday and Tuesday night before returning home to start an 8-game home stand Wednesday night against South Bend. Another Farm Bureau Insurance fireworks display will follow the game Wednesday night.
