
Bees Allow Two in the Ninth in Loss to Quad Cities

Burlington, IA (June 5, 2009) - After tying the game at 5-5 in the seventh inning, the Burlington Bees allowed two runs in the ninth and lost 7-5 Friday night at Community Field. With the loss, the two teams split the four-game series.
Quad Cities scored two runs in the top of the first to take a 2-0 lead. The Bees tied the ballgame up scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. Jarrod Dyson led the inning off with a triple and then scored on a Fernando Garcia double. Garcia then came into score when Eric Hosmer doubled. Quad Cities retook the lead scoring two runs in the top of the third.
The score stayed 4-2 until the top of the seventh when the River Bandits added another run for a three-run lead. The Bees tied the game in the bottom of the seventh by scoring three runs of their own. Chase Fontaine led the inning off with a single and moved to second on a Patrick Norris single. Dyson then singled to score Fontaine and move Norris to third. Hosmer then reached second on an error, which scored both Norris and Dyson to tie the game.
Quad Cities scored two runs in the ninth to take a 7-5 lead. The Bees left the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to end the game.
Tim Melville got the start and allowed four runs on five hits with three strikeouts and one walk in 2.1 innings. He left the game early as a precautionary measure after being hit by a line-drive. Zach Peterson, who was activated off the disabled list prior to the game, pitched 2.2 scoreless innings allowing just two hits with one strikeout and one walk. Henry Barrera pitched two innings allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Barry Bowden pitched two innings allowing two runs on two hits with two strikeouts and two walks for his second loss of the season.
The Bees had ten hits in the game. Norris led the way going 3-4 with a run scored. Dyson went 2-5 with two runs and one RBI. Fontaine went 2-4 with a run scored.
The Bees open a series at Cedar Rapids on Saturday afternoon. Sam Runion is the scheduled starter. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35.
