Altoona Curve News Release
CURVE, Pa. - The Bowie Baysox broke out for 14 hits and scored six times against Mitch Keller to beat the Altoona Curve, 8-2, during the final game of the homestand on Wednesday morning at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
The Curve (16-14) offense was held to 11 hits and four runs in three games against the Baysox (15-16), who claimed two of three in Altoona.
Anderson Feliz lined a solo homer into the left-field seats for Bowie's first run off Keller in the second. The Baysox lead ballooned to 4-0 after a two-run double by Aderlin Rodriguez in the third and an RBI single from Adrian Marin in the fourth.
Keller (Loss, 3-2) survived 4.1 innings and surrendered nine hits, one shy of his career high. Prior to his start on Wednesday, Keller was 3-0 at PNG Field this season and had no losing decisions at home since his last regular season outing against the Baysox on August 27, 2017. He allowed four earned runs and six overall, the most Keller has given up during his time at Double-A.
The Curve shaved Bowie's lead in half with a pair of runs in the fourth inning. Ke'Bryan Hayes and Jason Martin hit back-to-back singles before Will Craig was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs against Bowie starter Hunter Harvey (Win, 1-1). Jordan George then grounded a ball back to the mound, and Harvey threw home for a force out to eliminate the lead runner.
Logan Hill sent the next pitch into center field for a two-run single as the Curve drew within 4-2. Harvey limited a big scoring chance for the Curve to those two runs and got an inning-ending double play off the bat of Stephan Alemais.
Bowie answered the two Curve runs in the fourth with two unearned runs during their next turn at bat. A leadoff error put Ademar Rifaela aboard and later scored on a double by Mike Yastrzemski, who finished the day 4-for-4 with two doubles and a walk.
Harvey and reliever Michael Kelly (Save, 1) sat down 16 of the last 17 Altoona batters, with Cole Tucker's eighth-inning single providing the only Altoona baserunner after the fourth inning.
Martin (2-for-4) collected multiple hits for the Curve for the ninth time in 2018, and Craig extended his on-base streak to 11 games.
Bret Helton struck out two in 1.2 scoreless innings of relief behind Keller while Bowie scored once against Jake Brentz and Yeudy Garcia (2 IP, 1 R, 0 ER) from the Curve bullpen.
The Curve head for Reading on Thursday to begin a four-game set against the Fightin Phils. Left-hander Taylor Hearn (0-3, 5,81) will start for the Curve against right-hander Franklyn Kilome (1-0, 4.98) for Reading.
Altoona will return home on Monday to open a seven-game homestand against the Richmond Flying Squirrels and Portland SeaDogs.
