Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Harrisburg Senators torched the Erie SeaWolves 12-5 to capture the three-game series. The Senators recorded a season-high in both runs and hits as they ended the road trip with a victory.
Erie opened the scoring against Senators starter Jefry Rodriguez on a Josh Lester solo home run in the first.
The Senators responded quickly in the top of the second with a pair of runs off Erie starter Kyle Funkhouser to take the lead. After a Drew Ward single and Austin Davidson walk to start the frame, Jake Lowery drove in a run with a double to center. The next batter, Zach Collier, hit a sacrifice fly to right to give the Senators a 2-1 advantage.
The Senators expanded the lead with a pair of runs in the third. After a lead-off single by Yadiel Hernandez, Kelvin Gutierrez also singled to extend his hitting streak to a Senators season-high nine-games. The next batter, Ward, walked to load the bases, setting the table for Lowery who knocked a two-RBI single to right to put the Senators up 4-1.
Erie came back to retake the lead in a four-run bottom of the frame, highlighted by a pair of RBI singles from Gabriel Quintana and Arvicent Perez and an RBI double by Kenny Wilson.
With the score 5-4 Erie, the Senators plated five runs in an eleven-batter fifth to jump ahead for good. The Senators loaded the bases with two outs to start the frame and the next batter, Stephen Perez, lined a two-RBI single to center to put the Senators ahead by a run. After a walk to Hernandez loaded the bases again, Dan Gamache walked which forced in a run. With the next batter, Kelvin Gutierrez, at the plate, Erie reliever Jeff Thompson threw a wild pitch which allowed Perez to score from third. Later in the at-bat, Gutierrez capped the scoring in the frame with a run-scoring infield single to short as the Senators took a 9-5 advantage.
Perez knocked an RBI single in the sixth to add a run to the lead and put the Senators on top 10-5. Rodriguez (2-3) picked up the win after working five innings and allowing five runs on six hits while striking out seven and walking three.
The Senators tacked on another run in the seventh on three consecutive two-out hits, capped by an RBI single by Jake Lowery for his fourth hit and fourth RBI of the game. Lowery finished the game 4-4 with two walks as he reached base in all six plate appearances. The four hits are a new career-high Lowery and he is also the first Senators player to record four hits or more in a game this season.
Zach Collier closed the scoring for the Senators with an RBI single in the ninth to build the advantage to 12-5.
Rodriguez (2-3) picked up the win after working five innings and allowing five runs on six hits while striking out seven and walking three.
Ismael Guillon and Austen Williams combined to pitch four scoreless innings to close the 12-5 victory.
Matt Hall (0-2) took the loss after surrendering three runs on one hit in two-thirds of an inning of relief.
The 11 runs and 17 hits are both season highs for the Senators. All nine Senators batters recorded at least one hit while seven of the nine finished with multiple hits, highlighted by four hits from Lowery and three from Ward. Lowery led the team with four RBI and Perez drove in three. The team put at least two runners on base in all nine innings.
The Senators return home for a four-game homestand against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats beginning Thursday night. Jaron Long starts the series opener for the Senators opposite New Hampshire starter Francisco Rios. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at FNB Field.
