TODAY'S GAME The Senators and SeaWolves play the rubber match of their three game series on Wednesday morning at UPMC Park. Erie blanked the Senators 3-0 on Tuesday night to even the series. The Senators and SeaWolves tied for fifth in the Eastern League Western Division. The two clubs are scheduled to play 13 games against each other this season. The Senators went 3-8 against the SeaWolves during the 2017 season.
STARTING STRONG After Brady Dragmire allowed just one earned run over seven innings in game two of the series, six of the past seven Senators starters have allowed three earned runs or less and five of the past seven have thrown a quality start. Senators starters have a combined 2.91 ERA over the past seven contests.
NOTES FROM THE FIRST TWO GAMES OF THE SERIES The Senators were shutout for the fifth time this season in game two of the series, the most out of any team in the Eastern League. The game was also the third time the Senators have been blanked in the past six games. Monday night's game was the Senators' sixth extra inning game this season, which is tied with Erie for the most in the Eastern League. The Senators are 3-3 in such contests.
MONDAY'S PITCHING The Senators bullpen combined to throw five hitless innings to finish Monday night's 5-3 win. Five Senators relievers limited Erie to three walks and one unearned run while striking out nine. After back-to-back hits to open the first inning, the SeaWolves had just one more hit over the final 10 frames. The Senators pitching staff struck out a season-high 15 in the 11 inning victory.
HOW HOT IS THAT IN KELVIN? After batting .197 over his first 16 games, Kelvin Gutierrez is batting .326 over his past 13 games. The 22-year-old is currently riding an eight-game hitting streak and has recorded at least one hit in 11 of his previous 13 games.
FROM EAST TO WEST Despite their loss on Tuesday, the Senators are 7-5 against the Eastern League Western Division. In contrast, the Senators are 4-14 against teams in the Eastern Division. After playing 17 out of 20 games against the East, the Senators are now in the midst of a stretch where they play 17 of their next 21 games against the West. SENATORS STARTING PITCHER Jefry Rodriguez starts the series finale for the Senators. The right-hander is 1-3 with a 3.90 ERA in six starts this season. ERIE STARTING PITCHER The SeaWolves counter with starter Kyle Funkhouser. The right-hander is 0-3 with a 4.88 ERA across five starts this season. Funkhouser allowed five runs on nine hits across six innings in his last start on May 3 at Altoona. The 24-year-old was originally drafted in the 4th round of the 2016 draft from the University of Louisville.
