Fightins Drop Series Finale to Thunder

(Trenton, NJ) - The Trenton Thunder (20-11) took the series finale and the series with 3-1 win over the Fightin Phils (11-18). Wednesday was an early bird special as it took place at 10:30am and was played in front of 6,253 fans. Thunder starter Jonathan Loaisiga, who earned his first double-A win, silenced the Fightins with eight strikeouts in five innings.

For the first time in the series the Thunder got on the board first. In the bottom of the second Ben Ruta doubled and Mandy Alvarez, who also doubled, scored. Trey Amburgey hit a two run single to score Jhalan Jackson and Ben Ruta to make it 3-0. Romero finished with a line of six innings, four hits, three runs, four walks and seven strikeouts.

The Fightins got one back in the top of the fourth when Zach Green roped one of the left field fence for his sixth home run of the season. The Fightins had plenty of chances throughout the day but finished 0-7 with runners in scoring position.

Both bullpens pitched a combined six innings of one hit ball to close out game. Luke Leftwich pitched two innings of hitless ball with one walk and one strikeout for the Fightins. The Fightin Phils return to America's Classic Ballpark tomorrow against the Altoona Curve at 6:45pm.
