Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Record Last Week: 1-1-0 Overall Record 6-5-0 Game Rewind The K-Wings hit the ice twice last week, as Kalamazoo battled division rivals Fort Wayne and Rockford. Kalamazoo started the week on Friday (11/21) as they hosted the Fort Wayne Komets at Wings Stadium. The scoring started midway through the first period, when the Komet forwards Dustin Virag (7) and Colin Chaulk (4) each scored 52 seconds part to give Fort Wayne a 2-nothing lead. Kalamazoo cut the Komets lead to 2-1, when Marty Flichel (4) scored on a backhand from just inside the left circle 13:35 into the first period. Fort Wayne would hold the one goal lead until late in the second period, when Kevin Kotyluk scored his fifth of the season to extend the Komets lead to 3-1. Down by two goals and their goaltender pulled, the K-Wings would answer back late in the third period, when Guy Dupuis (2) scored the games final goal on the power play, as Fort Wayne defeated Kalamazoo by the final of 3-2. On Saturday (11/22), the K-Wings continued the week as they stayed within their division, as they traveled to Rockford, Illinois to play the IceHogs. Kalamazoo started the games scoring in the first period on a goal by Corey Lucas (1) 17:06 into the period. Rockford answered back less than two minutes later on a short-handed goal by John Glavota (1). The K-Wings grabbed the lead for good in the second period, when Guy Dupuis (2) took a drop pass from Tim Turner and then proceeded to score on a wrap around to make the score 2-1 in favor of Kalamazoo. The K-Wings added an insurance goal in the third period, when Ryan Priem scored is second of the season. Chad Alban kept the IceHogs in check stopping 20 of 21 shots, as the K-Wings defeated Rockford by the final of 3-1. Fast Forward
The K-Wings will be in action three times this week, including their first midweek game of the season on Wednesday (11/26), when the K-Wings play the expansion Columbus Stars. The meeting will be the first ever between the teams. Columbus starts the week in first place in the Eastern Conference, while the K-Wings enter the week in fourth place in the Western Conference. Kalamazoo will continue the week after Thanksgiving on Friday, November 27th, when the K-Wings wrap up rivalry month against the Fort Wayne Komets. Kalamazoo will be looking to avenge last week's 3-2 loss at Wings Stadium. Despite the loss last week, the K-Wings lead the season series against Fort Wayne with a record of 2-1-0. The K-Wings will be looking pass the Komets in the standings, as Fort Wayne leads Kalamazoo by just one point for third place in the Western Conference. Friday will also be win-win night sponsored by Win 98.5 FM and Old Burdick's in the Radisson. If the K-Wings win, everyone in Wings Stadium will win a FREE order of chicken wings from Old Burdick's in the Radisson and a ticket to the K-Wings game on December 4th versus the Flint Generals. Kalamazoo will conclude the week on Saturday, November 29th, as they travel to Moline, Illinois to battle the Quad City Mallards. This will be the first of nine meetings between the teams this season. The K-Wings trail the all-time series against the Mallards with a record of 12-17-1. Quad City enters the week in first place in the Western Conference with a record of 9-2-1 (19 points).
Streaks Come to an End
The K-Wings victory over Rockford last Saturday put an end to two K-Wings streaks. The victory ended Kalamazoo's season high three game winless streak, as well as the K-Wings 8 game winless streak in Rockford, which dates back to October 31, 2001.
Nearing a Milestone
K-Wings defenseman Chad Dameworth needs just 2 points to reach a personal milestone. Dameworth needs 2 points to reach 100 points for this career.
MVP Numbers
Kalamazoo goaltender keeps posting MVP type numbers. Alban enters play this week with a GAA of 2.31, which is the second lowest in the UHL.
Point Man
With 7 points, K-Wings defenseman Guy Dupuis is tied for 8th place among scoring defensemen. Guy also starts the week with a two game goal-scoring streak.
A Win-Win Situation When the K-Wings host the Fort Wayne Komets this Friday, they will do so on WIN-WIN Night sponsored by WIN-98.5 and Old Burdick's in the Radisson. In the Community
For the second straight week the K-Wings visited Toys R Us to sign autographs last Sunday (11/23), as employees of Bronson Hospital get to shop special and exclusive and after store hours as a reward Bronson being recognized recently in a national survey as one of the top 15 places for working mothers to work.
The Obscure Stat of the Week
Wednesday Night will be the first weekday game of the season for Kalamazoo. In their UHL history, the K-Wings are 15-16-5 on games played on Wednesday's.
