Fresno Falcons News Release
BOISE, Idaho â The Fresno Falcons were unable to overcome two goals in the first 5:19 of the hockey game as they lost to the Idaho Steelheads on Tuesday, 2-1, in front of 3,544 at the Bank of America Centre. The setback was Fresno's fourth loss in a row on the road and drops the club to 7-8-1 on the year.
The Steelheads started fast out of the gate when they converted on their first power play at 2:38 of the opening period. Lance Galbraith re-directed a shot from the point past Fresno goaltender Terry Friesen to give Idaho a 1-0 lead. They would build a 2-0 advantage at 5:19 of the first when Jan Kopecky banged home a rebound for his team-leading ninth of the campaign.
The Falcons cut into the Steelheads' 2-0 lead midway through the second period. Kevin Truelson knocked a Steelheads defenseman off the puck, which sprung himself and Kris Porter on a two-on-zero. Porter fed the rookie defenseman, who sent one off the right post for his second of the year at 10:53, and the Falcons entered the third trailing, 2-1.
Fresno would get no closer in a quick-moving third period filled with end-to-end action during which neither team would score. The Falcons out-shot Idaho, 12-11, in the final stanza and were able to pull Friesen in favor of an extra attacker with 1:35 to play but failed in their efforts to tie the game.
Fresno and Idaho play the second of their three-game, Thanksgiving Week set tomorrow night followed by the finale on Friday at the Bank of America Centre. Tomorrow's broadcast can be heard live on KAAT 103.1 FM beginning at 5:50 p.m. with the pre-game show.
The club's next home game is Sunday, Nov. 30, when they host the Alaska Aces at Save Mart Center at 5 p.m. Tickets to every Falcons game at Save Mart Center are on sale now beginning as low as $8 at the Save Mart Center box office. Tickets can also be purchased at all Ticketmaster outlets, which include select Save Mart Supermarkets, Rite Aid, Tower Records, Ritmo Latino and Wherehouse Music locations, charged by phone at 485-TIXS or bought online by clicking the Ticketmaster icon throughout www.fresnofalcons.com.
