October 13, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
FORT WAYNE - With the regular season on the horizon, the Kalamazoo Wings (2-1-0-0) ended their preseason slate with 7-3 victor over the Fort Wayne Komets (1-1-0-1) Monday night at Allen County Memorial Coliseum.
Keeping with the trend of the preseason, the K-Wings not only scored the game's first goal, they did so within the first five minutes of the opening face-off. Colin Murray (2nd) swatted a wobbly puck from 15-feet away 3:45 into the game to put the K-Wings ahead.
Three minutes later while on a power-play, Lane Scheidl (1st) extended Kalamazoo's lead with a one-timer from the left circle that was setup from a cross rink pass from Sacha Guimond.
Fort Wayne fought back midway in the period with an unassisted marker from Mike Embach (1st) to cut the lead to a single goal. However, Kalamazoo responded with a pair a goal 59 seconds apart late in the stanza.
Isaac Macleod (1st) gave Kalamazoo a two-goal cushion scoring a four-on-four goal from the high slot with 1:21 remaining in the opening period. Capping of the scoring in the first, Curtis Valk notched his first goal of the preseason with a power-play tally with 20 seconds left on the clock.
Kalamazoo continued to find the net in the second period, as Murray (3rd) cashed in on an odd-man rush 27 second into the middle frame. Dating back to the first period, the goal capped off a three-goal outburst in a span of 2:42 for Kalamazoo.
Fort Wayne tried to creep back into the game minutes later with a man-advantage strike from Drew Daniels (1st).
Valk (2nd) tacked on his second goal of the night off of a Komets turnover late in the third period. Fort Wayne's Thomas Frazee (2nd) jammed in a rebound to end the scoring for the Komets.
With one-tenth of a second remaining in the game, Scheidl (2nd) concluded the scoring with his second of the game.
Scoring in bunches, the K-Wings posted 14 goals in their three preseason games, while surrendering nine.
Kalamazoo will begin the regular season with a three-game road swing commencing this Friday, October 17th with a 7:05 p.m. encounter at the First Arena against the Elmira Jackals.
The K-Wings home opener will occur on Friday, October 24th versus Fort Wayne Komets at Wings Stadium during their 11th Annual Orange Ice Game. Fans are encouraged to dress in costumes and participate in Halloween festivities.
