
Stingrays Strike a Chord; Sign Forward Rob Bellamy

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 22 seasons of hockey in the Lowcountry, signed forward Rob Bellamy, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today.
Bellamy, 29, skated the last three seasons with the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL, finished second on the team in scoring last season (38 points) and tied for first with 17 goals in 69 games. With the Jackals, the Westfield, Massachusetts, native totaled 110 points (48 goals, 62 assists) in 204 contests. A third-round selection (92nd overall) by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Bellamy dressed two seasons with the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Philadelphia and Adirondack Phantoms, adding 12 points (four goals, eight assists) in 114 games.
Last season, the 6-foot, 195-pound forward battled alongside his younger brother Corey with the Jackals and his younger sister, Kacey, is a two-time Olympic silver medalist (2010 and 2014) with the U.S. Women's National Hockey Team. A musician and leader of the band "The Port Brothers," Bellamy recorded a C.D. last season to raise funds for an Elmira family involved in a tragic accident. The Stingrays kick off the 2014-15 season on Friday, October 17 against the Florida Everblades at 7:30 p.m. at Germain Arena in Estero, Florida and continue a season-opening three-game road trip the following evening, Saturday, October 18, against the Everblades at 7:00.
The Stingrays celebrate Opening Night on Saturday, October 25 at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum! The world-famous Zooperstars perform all night and the first 5,000 fans receive a Savage Law Firm 2014-15 magnet schedule.
