October 13, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the NHL and Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL, today announced that the team will face the Brampton Beast for back-to-back games at Santander Arena in mid-January and will also travel to Brampton, Ontario, for three consecutive games in latter March in the only schedule changes for the Royals resulting from the ECHL's acceptance of seven new member teams last week.
The first matchups for the Royals and Beast will occur in at Santander Arena in Reading on Saturday, January 10 (7:05 pm), and Sunday, January 11 (5:05 pm). These two games will substitute for games in which the Royals were previously scheduled to face the Evansville Icemen.
Later in the season, the Royals will travel to the Powerade Centre in Brampton, Ontario, to face the Beast in three consecutive games: (i) Thursday, March 19 (@ 7:00 pm et); (ii) Friday, March 20 (@ 7:30 pm et); and (iii) Sunday, March 22 (@ 2:00 pm et). This will mark the first time in team history that the Royals have played outside of the continental United States. These games will substitute for games that were previously scheduled in Toledo, Ohio, against the Toledo Walleye on Friday, March 20; and back-to-back games that were to be played in Fort Wayne, Indiana, against the Fort Wayne Komets on Saturday, March 21, and Sunday, March 22.
Last week, the ECHL announced that the league has accepted seven new member teams for the 2014-15 season: the (i) Allen (TX) Americans; (ii) Brampton (ON) Beast; (iii) Missouri (Independence, MO) Mavericks; (iv) Quad City (IL) Mallards; (v) Rapid City (SD) Rush; (vi) Tulsa (OK) Oilers; and (vii) Wichita (KS) Thunder. The seven new teams will compete in the Central Division of the Western Conference.
Under the revised alignment in the ECHL, the Royals now play in the East Division of the Eastern Conference along with the Elmira Jackals, Florida Everblades, Greenville Road Warriors, Gwinnett Gladiators, Orlando Solar Bears, and South Carolina Stingrays.
The Royals open the 2014-15 season on Saturday, October 18, at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia, where the team will face the Wheeling Nailers. The home portion of the schedule will kick off the following Saturday (October 25, 2014 @ 7:05 p.m.) when the Elmira Jackals travel to Santander Arena. Royals' season tickets are currently available.
