Royals Acquire Forward Pat Mullane from Greenville
October 13, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has acquired forward Pat Mullane from the Greenville Road Warriors in exchange for the ECHL rights to defenseman Mike Banwell. In a separate transaction, the Royals released goaltender Sam Marotta from his Tryout Agreement with the team. In another transaction previously completed, the Royals released defenseman Kyler Nixon from his Tryout Agreement.
Last season, Mullane (5'11/193) (24), a second year pro from Wallingford, Connecticut, recorded thirteen points (6g-7a) and fifteen penalty minutes in forty-six games for the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. Mullane also had two separate stints in the ECHL with the Toledo Walleye, where he tacked on four points (2g-2a) and two penalty minutes in thirteen games. In his first game with Toledo (on December 20, 2013), Mullane scored his first pro goal-a late third-period tie breaking game winner, which came on a penalty shot, in a 2-1 victory over the Kalamazoo Wings.
Prior to turning pro, Mullane had a stellar four year career at Boston College, where he was a member of two separate NCAA Division I National Championship teams. In his senior season, Mullane was the third leading scorer for the Eagles with forty-three points (16g-27a) in thirty-eight games. At the conclusion of the 2012-13 season, Mullane, who served as BC's team captain, was honored as a co-recipient of the John 'Snooks' Kelley Memorial Award, which is bestowed on the player who best exemplifies what it means to be a BC hockey player. In 163 career games for the Eagles, Mullane recorded 139 points (42g-97a) and 100 penalty minutes.
The Royals open the 2014-15 season on Saturday, October 18, at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia, where the team will face the Wheeling Nailers. The home portion of the schedule will kick off the following Saturday (October 25, 2014 @ 7:05 pm) when the Elmira Jackals travel to Santander Arena. Royals' season tickets are currently available.
