Last time out...
The Freedom fell by a score of 8-4 to the Rascals on Thursday night. Florence jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first as Daniel Fraga singled to start the frame. Sam Eberle drew a walk and Fraga proceeded to steal third. Austin Newell singled home Fraga and Eberle went to third on the play. Then Newell stole second and the throw went into center field, allowing Eberle to score and Florence took a 2-0 lead. Newell advanced to third on a wild pitch and Gaby Juarbe drew a walk. The Freedom pulled off a double steal as Juarbe swiped second and Newell stole home. The throw home to try and get Newell was wild and Juarbe advanced to third. He scored on an Ozzy Gonzalez sacrifice fly to make it 4-0 in favor of the Freedom. But River City went on to score eight unanswered runs over the remainder of the game. Josh Ludy's solo homer in the fifth gave them the lead for good as Florence dropped the series two games to one.
For Starters...
Alan Carey makes his third start of the year tonight for the Freedom. His first two starts of his professional career have been polar opposites of each other. In his first start on May 30 against Normal, Carey allowed 11 runs on eight hits in an inning and a third. But in his second start on June 4 against Traverse City, Carey went five innings, only allowing one run on four hits. He got a no-decision but the Freedom won 5-3. Carey started his collegiate career at Westchester Community College before transferring to Northwood University in Florida. Was named Northwood's Pitcher of the Year in 2014 and was the conference's gold glove winner.
Welcome home...
The Freedom return home tonight for a quick three-game home stand. Florence has a 7-8 record so far this year at home after going 28-26 at home in 2014.
Taking on the Boomers...
Florence went 3-3 against the Boomers in 2014, including 2-1 at UC Health Stadium.
What a relief...

He has been particularly hot as of late, hitting safely in six of the team's last seven games (13-26, .500). Leading after six...
When the Freedom have the lead after six innings they have a record of 6-0 on the season.
I plead the fifth...
The fifth inning has been a disaster for the Freedom this season. Opponents are outscoring them by a count of 36-7 in the fifth frame. Walk it out... The Freedom have drawn 99 walks this year, that's the most in the Frontier League.
