River City Rascals News Release


O'Fallon, MO - The Rascals (15-10) won their third straight and defeated the Normal CornBelters (16-9) in the series opener 10-3 on Friday, June 12 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. RHP Joe Scanio (W, 4-2) earned his team-leading fourth win of the season after tossing 7.0 innings. He surrendered three runs and nine hits; the righty did not issue a walk and struck out five batters. LHP Anthony Ferrara tossed 2.0 scoreless innings of relief.

Normal took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Mark Micowski singled and stole second base. Patrick McKenna then doubled home the runner.

The Rascals responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning. CF Curran Redal singled, swiped second, and scored on a single by LF Brian Hansen. After a C Josh Ludy single, DH Danny Canela hit a sacrifice fly that scored Hansen from third. 3B Taylor Ard then doubled, and 2B Hector Crespo hit an RBI sac fly.

RF Saxon Butler led off the second inning with a single and steal. SS Johnny Morales singled to put men on the corners, and Redal hit an RBI groundout.

In the third inning, Ard hit a leadoff double, and Butler hit a two-run homer, his third of 2015.

The Rascals scored four more runs in the fifth inning. Crespo singled to begin the inning and stole second base. Morales then singled home Crespo. Next Redal singled, and LF Josh Silver walked to load the bases. Ludy followed with a two-run single, and Silver scored on a wild pitch.

Normal starter Chris Carmain (L, 3-2) ceded a season-high 13 hits and nine runs. He pitched a season-low 4.2 innings. Johnny Fageaux allowed one run over 3.1 innings of work.

Six Rascals collected multiple base hits. Ludy went 4-for-4 with one run and two RBI. Morales collected a season-high three hits along with one run and one RBI.

The Rascals and Normal CornBelters continue their three-game series on Saturday, June 13 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark at 6:35 p.m. CST.
