
Rascals Come Back from Early Hole, Win Series Finale

O'Fallon, MO - The Rascals (14-10) came back from a four-run deficit to defeat the Florence Freedom (9-15) 8-4 on Thursday, June 11 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. Florence took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Daniel Fraga hit an infield single, and Sam Eberle walked. Fraga stole third base and scored on a single by Austin Newell. Newell then stole second base, and C Jackson Slaid's throw went into centerfield; Eberle scored from third on the throwing error. A wild pitch allowed Newell to advance to third base, and Gaby Juarbe walked. Juarbe then stole second base, and Newell stole home on the double steal. A throwing error by SS Josh Silver advanced Juarbe to third base. He scored on a sacrifice flyout by Ozzy Gonzalez, the first out of the inning.
The Rascals scored one run in the first and second inning. CF Curran Redal hit a leadoff double in the first and scored on a LF Brian Hansen single. In the second, RF Zach Kometani doubled, and Slaid doubled him home.
The Rascals tied the game in the third inning. Hansen singled, DH Josh Ludy singled, and 1B Danny Canela walked to load the bases with no outs. 2B Hector Crespo hit a sacrifice fly to score Hansen, and Kometani hit an RBI single to knot the game at 4-4.
The Rascals took their first lead of the night in the fifth inning. Ludy hit a leadoff homerun, his third of the season. Then Canela and 3B Taylor Ard singled. Crespo bunted both men over, and Kometani hit an RBI sac fly.
The Rascals scored one more run in both the sixth and seventh. Redal drew a base on balls in the sixth inning, and Hansen tripled him home. Then in the seventh, Ard was hit by a pitch and stole second base. Kometani singled him in from second base.
River City starter LHP Tommy Organ received a no-decision after allowing four runs, three earned, on three hits and two walks. RHP Chandler Jagodzinski retired the first seven men he faced and pitched 2.2 scoreless innings of relief. RHP Will Schierholz (W, 1-0) earned the victory after tossing 2.0 shutout frames. RHP Derek Cape added 1.0 scoreless inning, and RHP Heith Hatfield did not allow a run over the final 2.0 innings of the game.
Florence starter Casey Henn (L, 1-5) took the loss after tossing 4.1 innings. He surrendered six runs, 10 hits, and two walk. Seth Harvey allowed one run in 1.2 innings, and Ethan Gibbons ceded one run in 2.0 frames.
Eight Rascals collected a hit, and all nine reached base. Hansen finished with 4 hits and drove in two, and Kometani went 3-for-3 with three RBI.
The Rascals open a three-game series against the Normal CornBelters on Friday, June 12 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark at 6:35 p.m. CST.
