(Florence, KY) - With the Freedom, the force was not, on Star Wars Night at UC Health Stadium.
The Florence Freedom (9-16), presented by Titan Mechanical Solutions, fell to the Schaumburg Boomers (11-14) by a score of 6-1 on Friday.
Boomers' starter Brett Mabry (2-1) shut down Florence, striking out seven in his seven and two thirds on the bump allowing only three hits and no runs to pick up his second win.
Florence got on the board in the ninth. Gaby Juarbe pinch hit for Rob Kelly and led off with a walk. Juarbe moved to second on a balk, advanced to third on a Steve Carrillo ground out to second and came around to score on a Cody Bishop ground out.
Carrillo led the way at the plate for Florence, reaching three times in his four plate appearances with a single and two walks. Sam Eberle also went two for four for the Freedom in the loss.
The Freedom's starter Alan Carey (0-2) fired three and a third innings allowing five runs, four of which were earned, while fanning two. The Boomers tagged one run on Carey in the third and four more in the fourth, the biggest hit being an Alexi Colon three run home run. Schaumburg led 5-0 after four.
The Florence bullpen tossed six innings and two thirds and allowed only a single run in the game. Jason Postill tossed two and a third scoreless innings while striking out three. Matt Eshleman retired the final man of the sixth inning. Pete Levitt surrendered one run in his two innings on the hill. Tony Vocca struck out one Boomer batter in a scoreless ninth inning.
