Johnstown Chiefs News Release


The Johnstown Chiefs (20-33-14; 54 PTS; 7th North div.) had their busiest week of the season as they played five road games in seven days. The Chiefs lost all five games during the stretch. This week they will play their final road game of the season as they travel to Toledo on Friday night. Saturday night they host Dayton and Sunday afternoon Wheeling. The Chiefs remain in seventh place in the North division. Last place Dayton trails Johnstown by four points.

Game #63 (3/22/05) PEORIA 5 - Johnstown 3 Tallari Two Goals

Joe Tallari's two goals were not enough as the Chiefs fell to the Peoria Rivermen 5-3 Tuesday night at Carver Arena. Brent Kelly also scored for the Chiefs. Mark Scally made 33 saves in the contest. Five different Rivermen scored in the contest.

Game #64 (3/23/05) PEORIA 6 - Johnstown 2 Cavanagh Goal

The Chiefs dropped their final game ever against the Peoria Rivermen Wednesday night as they fell 6-2. Chad Cavanagh and Joe Tallari scored for the Chiefs. David Cann started the game allowing three goals and making 17 saves. Mark Scally played the final two periods, allowing two goals and made 24 saves.

Game #65 (3/25/05) READING 5 - Johnstown 1 Cann 28 Saves

The Reading Royals jumped out to a 4-0 lead en route to a 5-1 win over the Chiefs Friday night at the Sovereign Center. Joe Tallari scored the lone Johnstown goal in the contest. David Cann suffered the loss making 28 saves.

Game #66 (3/26/05) ATLANTIC CITY 5 - Johnstown 3 Tarabrin Goal, Assist

Former Chief Shawn Mather led the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies with a hat trick en route to their 5-3 win over the Chiefs Saturday night at Boardwalk Hall. Matt Reid, Brian Collins and Dmitri Tarabrin all scored for Johnstown. Chiefs goaltender Mark Scally made 33 saves in the defeat.

Game #67 (3/27/05) ATLANTIC CITY 5 - Johnstown 4 Tallari Two Goals

The Chiefs had a 4-1 lead in the second period Sunday afternoon before surrendering four goals including three in the final frame as they fell 5-4 at Atlantic City. Joe Tallari had a pair of goals in the game. Chris Leinweber and Matt Reid also scored. Net minder Mark Scally made 34 saves in the game. Shawn Mather had two goals and an assist for Atlantic City.

Friday night the Chiefs play their final road game of the season when they face the Toledo Storm (37-23-5, 79 PTS; T-4th North div.) for the final time this season. The Chiefs are 2-6-0 against the Storm this season and 0-4-0 at the Toledo Sports Arena. Toledo is currently tied with Wheeling for the fourth and final playoff spot in the North division. The Storm is 6-3-1 in their last ten games.

The Chiefs return from their eight game road trip Saturday night when they host the Dayton Bombers (22-37-6, 50 PTS; 8th North div.). The Chiefs are 5-2-1 versus Dayton this season. The Bombers have won four out of their last ten games.

The Chiefs close out the weekend against the Wheeling Nailers (36-24-5, 77 PTS; 6th North div.) Sunday afternoon at the War Memorial Arena. Johnstown is 2-4-1 against Wheeling this season. The Nailers are fighting for the fourth and final playoff spot as they trail fourth place Toledo and Peoria by two points.
