Johnson Reassigned to Crunch

Syracuse, NY (January 13, 2004) – The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have reassigned defenseman Aaron Johnson to Syracuse. The team also announced that they have signed left wing Scott Cameron to a professional try-out contract and have released center Sylvain Cloutier from his professional try-out contract.

Johnson, 20, did not appear in any games with Columbus during his most recent recall. Johnson, the Crunch's representative at this season's AHL All-Star Classic, made his NHL debut with Columbus on December 2 against the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. On December 4, Johnson recorded his first NHL point, an assist, against Nashville. In three games with Columbus this season, Johnson has one assist and two penalty minutes. In 30 games with Syracuse this season, Johnson has recorded 4 goals, 10 assists and 44 penalty minutes. Last season, Johnson split time between Rimouski of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (25gp, 4g, 20a, 41 PIM's) and Quebec (QMJHL) (32gp, 6g, 31a, 41 PIM's). A native of Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia, Johnson was Columbus' fourth pick, 85th overall, in the 2001 Entry Draft.

Cameron, 21, has appeared in two games with Albany this season, without recording a point. Cameron has also split time this season with Cincinnati (ECHL) (17gp, 5g, 5a, 9 PIM's) and Dayton (ECHL) (3gp, 1g, 1a). A native of Valley East, Ontario, Cameron was selected by New Jersey in the sixth round, 185 overall, in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

Cloutier, 29, appeared in two games with Syracuse this season, recording one assist and four penalty minutes. In two games with Albany this season, Cloutier recorded two penalty minutes. Cloutier tallied 13 goals, 18 assists and 60 penalty minutes in 31 games with Adirondack (United Hockey League) this season. He has appeared in 565 career AHL games with Adirondack, Albany, Houston and Syracuse, recording 86 goals, 188 assists and 1,073 penalty minutes. A native of Mont-Laurier, Quebec, Cloutier, was selected by Detroit in the third round, 70th overall, in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft.

Syracuse hosts Toronto on Friday, January 16 for Empire Vision Centers Poster Night. All fans in attendance will receive a Crunch poster, courtesy of Empire Vision Centers. Saturday, January 17, the Crunch host the Cleveland Barons.
