January 13, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
The Providence Bruins announced today that right wing Carl Corazzini and center Kris Vernarsky have been recalled by the Boston Bruins. It is the first recall to Boston of the season for both players, and the first of Corazzini's three-year career.
Corazzini, a 24-year-old native of Framingham, Massachusetts, leads Providence with 12 goals and leads the AHL with four shorthanded goals. His total of 18 points ranks third on the P-Bruins. Corazzini has had the P-Bruins' hottest hand lately, posting 6-1-7 totals in his last seven games, including three shorthanded goals, two power play goals and two game-winning goals. The 5'10", 182-pound Corazzini was originally signed by Boston as a free agent out of Boston University on August 8, 2001. He will be a live guest tonight on "Providence Bruins Weekly Presented by National City Mortgage". The show will air on WSKO AM-790 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Vernarsky returned to the P-Bruins' lineup on Saturday night after being out since December 7 with a broken foot. He has 5-3-8 totals and 26 PIM in 27 games this season with Providence. The 21-year-old native of Detroit, Michigan is in his second professional season. He notched 12-15-27 totals and 49 PIM in 65 games as a rookie last year with Providence, and scored one goal in 14 games with Boston. The 6'3", 215-pound Vernarsky played four seasons of junior hockey with the Plymouth Whalers (OHL) from 1998-2002, and was originally selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs with their second pick, 51st overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He was acquired by Boston from Toronto in exchange for Richard Jackman on May 13, 2002.
The Bruins return home to host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Providence Bruins Hat Night, on Friday, January 16 at 7:05 p.m. The first 4,000 fans in attendance will receive a free Providence Bruins hat, courtesy of the Rhode Island Lottery and WPRI CBS-12/WNAC Fox 64.
