
Joey MacDonald returns to the Storm

(Toledo, Ohio) The Toledo Storm of the ECHL announced today that Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League (AHL) has sent down goaltender Joey MacDonald and recalled defenseman Paul Ballantyne.
Joey, the 2001-2002 Toledo Storm MVP, has appeared in 8 games for the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL) this season. MacDonald has had excellent numbers for the first-place Griffins going 5-1-2 with a 2.07 goals against average (GAA) along with a .938 save percentage (PCT).
MacDonald appeared in 38 games for Toledo in 2001-2002. During that year, Joey's first as a pro, his record was 12-15-7 with a 2.88GAA and a .922 PCT. Joey had seven games that season where he made 40 or more saves. Joey's first professional shutout came in a Toledo Storm uniform on December 12, 2001 against Peoria where he made 44 saves.
Last season MacDonald spent the entire year with Grand Rapids appearing in 25 games. During the year he set a Griffins franchise record with nine straight road wins and also allowed two or fewer goals in 16 of his 25 starts. He finished the year 14-6-0 with a 2.20GAA and a .916 PCT.
Paul Ballantyne will be making his second trip to Grand Rapids. Paul was first recalled after Toledo's 5-4 shootout win against Peoria on November 29th. He appeared in one contest for the Griffins on November 30th and did not pick up a point. In 17 games this season with Toledo, Paul has 5 goals, 11 assists and 14 penalty minutes. The Grand Rapids Griffins next contest is at the Cleveland Barons on Wednesday December 10th.
Joey MacDonald is expected to join the Storm today and practice tomorrow. The next contest for Toledo is December 12th at Wheeling.
