Louisiana IceGators News Release
Lafayette, LA â The American Hockey League's Houston Aeros have assigned defenseman Kevin Mitchell to the ECHL's Louisiana IceGators, the teams announced Tuesday. Mitchell is expected to be available for Friday's game against Texas, which kicks off a three-in-three set this weekend.
The 23-year-old Mitchell had notched three assists in 12 games with Houston this season, his third full pro campaign. The Bronx, N.Y., native is no stranger to Louisiana, having spent most of the past two seasons there. Mitchell has already played three games with Louisiana this season, scoring 1 goal and 5 assists for 6 points.
"Anytime you can add an All-Star defenseman to the roster it bodes well for your hockey team" said Head Coach Dave Farrish. " Mitchell has always been a fan favorite with his great offensive play and solid hip checks at center ice. We look forward to having him be a big part of our team as long as he is here."
The 23-year-old Mitchell is a native of the Bronx, NY, was named an ECHL All-Star in each of his first two campaigns with Louisiana. Last season, Mitchell was elected to start in the All-Star Game, but missed the contest due to a lengthy call-up to the AHL. Mitchell posted 34 points (5g, 29a) in 30 games with Louisiana, and also two assists in six post-season contests. He spent time in the AHL with both Bridgeport and Cleveland, accumulating 12 points (3g, 9a) in 42 games. Mitchell attended camp with the NHL's Minnesota Wild in September.
The IceGators will play two home games this weekend, Educator's Appreciation Night Friday December 12 vs. the Texas Wildcatters at 7:05pm and Fire, Police and EMT Appreciation Day Sunday Dec 14 vs. the Mississippi Sea Wolves at 4:05pm.
