
Jacksonville Clubs 12 Hits in Win over Gwinnett

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After only scoring one run on Thursday, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp bats exploded with 12 hits in a 7-2 win over the Gwinnett Stripers Friday night in front of 8,005 fans at 121 Financial Ballpark.
After Gwinnett tied the game in the top of the third, Jacksonville (30-28) took the lead with a run in the bottom of the third. With one out, Lewin Díaz tripled and two batters JJ Bleday walked to put runners at the corners. Peyton Burdick followed with a single, scoring Díaz to give the Jumbo Shrimp a 3-2 lead.
Jacksonville continued to pad their lead in the fifth. Díaz started the inning with a single and went to second as Jerar Encarnacion walked. Two batters later, Burdick drove in his second run of the day with a single to put Jacksonville ahead 4-2.
The Jumbo Shrimp kept their bats going in the sixth inning. With one out, Lorenzo Quintana (10) blasted a solo home run to push the Jacksonville lead to 5-2.
The Jumbo Shrimp plated their final two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Encarnacion walked to start the inning and Burdick reached base on a fielder's choice two batters later. Burdick's groundball was misplayed, allowing Encarnacion to advance to third. During Bryson Brigman's at-bat, Burdick stole second. With runners at second and third, Brigman hit a sac fly, scoring Encarnacion to give Jacksonville a 6-2 lead. Burdick advanced to third on the sac fly and then scored on Erik González's infield single giving the Jumbo Shrimp a 7-2 advantage.
Jacksonville got a stellar performance from their pitching staff tonight. It started from the beginning as Elieser Hernandez (W, 1-0) tossed five strong innings, allowing two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts in his Jacksonville debut. Tommy Eveld contributed two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk with two strikeouts. Jake Fishman spun one scoreless inning with one walk, one hit and one strikeout. Jimmy Yacabonis wrapped up the game with a perfect ninth inning and one strikeout.
The Jumbo Shrimp opened the scoring in the bottom of the first. Brian Miller singled and advanced to second on a groundout from Quintana. Díaz singled, allowing Miller to advance to third, who the scored on a wild pitch, giving Jacksonville a 1-0 lead. Díaz scored two batters later from a double by Bleday to give a 2-0 advantage to the Jumbo Shrimp.
Gwinnett (29-29) tied the game with a pair of runs in the top of the third. Greyson Jenista led off the inning with a solo home run to cut the deficit to 2-1. Delino DeShields Jr. followed with a single and immediately stole second. Two batters later, Braden Shewmake singled, allowing DeShields to advance to third and a passed ball allowed DeShields Jr. to score from third, tying the game at two.
Jacksonville continues their series with Gwinnett Saturday at 6:35 p.m. ET. RHP Bryan Hoeing (4-2, 5.18) gets the ball for Jacksonville and LHP Tucker Davidson (1-1, 4.05) gets the ball for Gwinnett. Coverage begins at 6:20 p.m. ET on ESPN 690, espn690.com and MiLB.tv.
Gates open at 5:00 p.m. tomorrow for Faith and Family Night, presented by Sight and Sound Productions. Christian hip-hop artist Flame will perform a pregame concert near the right field bleachers, leading up to the 6:35 p.m. first pitch. It's also Christmas in June at 121 Financial Ballpark and the Jumbo Shrimp will be giving away an Ugly Christmas Sweater, presented by 121 Financial Credit Union to the first 2,000 fans.
