Durham Bulls News Release

MEMPHIS, TN - Bulls starting pitcher Josh Fleming twirled eight scoreless innings to earn his sixth straight victory, right fielder Josh Lowe recorded three hits while driving in a run and first baseman Luke Raley homered in Durham's 4-0 shutout win over the Memphis Redbirds on Friday evening at AutoZone Park.

Fleming (8.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K) faced 26 batters, just two above the minimum, improving to 6-0 with the Bulls after scattering four hits while inducing three double plays. The southpaw threw 93 pitches, including 62 strikes, with his eight frames the longest outing by a Bulls pitcher in nearly four years, with Chih-Wei Hu the last Durham hurler to toss eight innings on June 28, 2018.

In his six starts with the Bulls, Fleming has accumulated a 0.98 ERA, yielding just four earned runs in 36.2 innings of work, adding four walks while striking out 31. He has allowed one earned run or less in five of those six outings.

Durham reliever Javy Guerra (1.0 IP, K) completed the shutout with a hitless ninth, marking the first time Memphis has been blanked in a game this season. St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Jack Flaherty (4.0 IP, H, R, ER, 0 BB, 6 K) suffered the loss as part of his Major League Rehab Assignment with the Redbirds.

The lone hit Flaherty allowed was Raley's solo homer in the second, the only run the Bulls would need. Lowe lined an RBI single into center in the sixth to make it 2-0, while 2B Miles Mastrobuoni smashed a run-scoring double in the subsequent inning to increase the advantage to three. Lowe later scored when SS Tristan Gray was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, capping Durham's scoring output.

Lowe led all batters with his three hits, with Raley (2-4, R, HR, RBI, BB) and Mastrobuoni (2-5, 2B, RBI) adding multi-hit efforts of their own. Redbirds LF Alec Burleson (2-4) recorded two of his club's four knocks on the evening.

The two teams are set to continue their six-game series on Saturday, with first pitch scheduled for 7:35pm ET. Durham has not yet announced their starting pitcher, with Memphis expected to give the nod to RHP Jake Woodford.

The Bulls return to Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Tuesday, June 14 to start a six-game home series versus the Louisville Bats, the Triple-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. First pitch of that series' opener is set for 6:35pm.

Tickets for that game and all remaining 2022 home dates can be purchased at DurhamBulls.com/tickets.
