
Jackson Placed On Disabled List

(Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that OF Austin Jackson has been placed on the Disabled List. RHP Eric Wordekemper has been promoted from Tampa (High-A) to Trenton, to take Jackson's place on the roster.
Jackson left Trenton's game on Friday night against the Reading Phillies after two plate appearances. He is hitting .287 with nine home runs and 68 RBI in 128 games. He also has 19 stolen bases. Jackson is third in the Eastern League in hits (146), second in doubles (33), and third in runs scored (74). He participated in the 2008 Eastern League All-Star Game in Manchester, NH. He has had two seven-RBI games this season. He entered the season as the #2 prospect in the Yankees Minor League System according to Baseball America. Last season, he appeared in 60 games for Charleston (Low-A), 67 games for Tampa, and one game for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A). He hit .260 for the River Dogs with three home runs and 25 RBI. He had a .345 BA with 10 home runs and 34 RBI in 67 games for Tampa. He went 1 x 3 with two runs in one game for the Yankees. He also played for the Thunder in the Eastern League playoffs. He was originally an eighth round selection by the Yankees in the 2005 draft.
Wordekemper was 3-2 with a 3.35 ERA in 30 games (one start) for the Thunder this season, including six saves. He had 42 strikeouts and 24 walks in 45.2 IP. He was transferred from Trenton to Tampa on July 29th. He was 0-0 with a 10.80 ERA in two games for Tampa (High-A). Last season, Wordekemper had a 2-0 record with a 0.57 ERA in 43 games for Tampa with 33 saves. He led the Yankees in ERA, saves and games. He was named the Florida State League's "Most Valuable Pitcher" and earned a spot on the league's mid- and postseason All Star teams. Wordekemper appeared in one game for the Thunder and threw a scoreless inning to earn the save. He was originally selected by the Yankees in the 46th round of the 2005 draft out of Creighton University.
Trenton and Reading play the middle game of the three-game series on Saturday night from Waterfront Park.
