Harrisburg Senators News Release
Harrisburg, PA - Harrisburg Senators LHP Justin Jones turned in one of his best starts of the season, but the bullpen coughed up a lead late in a 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Portland Sea Dogs. Portland scored four runs in the final two innings, just one night removed from a tremendous performance from the Harrisburg bullpen.
It was an unfortunate turnaround for Harrisburg. On Friday, Senators relievers delivered five shutout innings in a 2-1 victory. On Saturday, they gave up four runs in three frames.
The Senators plated a run in the 1st inning for the second consecutive night. Garrett Guzman ripped a leadoff double down the right-field line, moved to third on a groundout by Seth Bynum and scored on another groundout by Mike Daniel.
In the 4th, Ofilio Castro singled to start the inning. He moved up on a groundout and scored when Ian Desmond dumped a single into shallow right to make it 2-0.
The Sea Dogs got on the board in the top of the 5th. Josh Reddick, Tony Granadillo and Iggy Suarez hit consecutive singles to load the bases with one out. LHP Justin Jones induced an infield popout but Argenis Diaz drew an RBI walk to make it 2-1. Jones avoided further damage as second baseman Marco Yepez made a fine play to end the inning on a groundout.
Portland struck for a big inning in the 8th. RHP Josh Perrault issued a two-out walk and RHP Adam Carr was summoned from the bullpen. He allowed a single to Aaron Bates and a three-run home run to Jorge Jimenez which gave the Sea Dogs a 4-2 lead.
The Sea Dogs tacked on an insurance run in the top of the 9th when Diaz lined an RBI single up the middle to plate Granadillo and make it 5-2.
Carr took the loss to fall to 3-4. Portland RHP Chad Rhoades (4-3) picked up the win and RHP Daniel Bard collected his sixth save.
The Senators dropped to 69-65. Portland upped its record to 70-60.
The Senators and Sea Dogs finish the three-game series Sunday at 1:05 PM. LHP Cory VanAllen (3-2, 4.99 ERA) takes on Portland LHP Kris Johnson (8-8, 3.58 ERA).
