
Buchholz to Pitch Monday for Sea Dogs

Portland, Maine- The Boston Red Sox have optioned right-handed pitcher Clay Buchholz to the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs. To make room for Buchholz on the Sea Dogs roster, outfielder Bryan Pritz has been placed on the disabled list, retroactive to August 22. Buchholz is scheduled to pitch for the Sea Dogs on Monday, August 25th at 7:00 PM against the New Britain Rock Cats (Twins) at Hadlock Field. Buchholz is the 47th player used by the Sea Dogs this season, he will wear uniform #13.
In 16 games with the Red Sox this season, Buchholz is 2-9 with a 6.75 ERA. The 24 year-old, suffered his 9th loss on Wednesday and is 0-6 with an 8.33 ERA in 8 games since July 1 with Boston. Last season, Buchholz led all Red Sox Minor League pitchers in ERA (2.44) and strikeouts (171) between Portland (7-2, 1.77 ERA) and Pawtucket (1-3, 3.96 ERA), he was named the Red Sox Minor League Pitcher of the Year. Buchholz joined the Red Sox at the end of the 2007 season and tossed a no-hitter against the Baltimore Orioles in just his second Major League start on September 1st. The Lumberton, Texas native was Boston's third pick (sandwich pick between the first and second rounds, 42nd overall) in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft.
Monday, August 25th is Clay Buchholz bobblehead night at the Sea Dogs. The first 1,000 fans to enter the ballpark will receive a Clay Buchholz boblehead doll commemrating his no-hitter on September 1, 2007 against the Baltimore Orioles, courtesy of Northeast Delta Dental.
Additionally, the 2004 and 2007 Red Sox World Series Trophies will be on display at Hadlock Field on Monday, August 25th. The trophies will be available for viewing from 5:30 to 8:30 PM in the birthday party area of Hadlock Field. Fans must have a ticket to the August 25th Sea Dogs game to view the trophies.
A limited number of tickets remain for the August 25th Sea Dogs game against the New Britain Rock Cats. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Sea Dogs Ticket Office at 207-879-9500 or online at www.seadogs.com. The Sea Dogs have eight remaining home dates left to the 2008 season, tickets are available to all remaining games.
The Sea Dogs currently hold a two game lead over the Binghamton Mets for the final playoff spot in the Eastern League's Northern Division with 11 games left to play. The Sea Dogs will play 9 of their remaining 11 games at Hadlock Field. The Sea Dogs are looking to qualify for post-season play for the fourth consecutive season. The Trenton Thunder (Yankees) clinched first place in the Northern Division last night. Individual game playoff tickets are currently on sale at the Hadlock Field Ticket Office and can be purchased by calling the Sea Dgs Ticket Office at 207-879-9500. Playoff tickets are priced the same as regular season tickets and range between $4.00 and $9.00. The Eastern League playoffs are scheduled to begin on Wednesday, September 3rd.
