New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH- Eric Blanton, the Head Turf Manager of the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, has been named the 2008 Eastern League Diamond Pro Sports Field Manager of the Year. The announcement was made earlier today by Eastern League President Joseph McEacharn. It is the second straight year Blanton has won the award, which is voted on by Eastern League field staff and umpire crews.
"We are very proud of Eric and his staff as they have continued to do an outstanding job here in New Hampshire," said Fisher Cats President Rick Brenner. "They make it look very easy, but we all know they work very hard to create the best playing surface in Minor League Baseball, and it is great to see that get recognized again."
Blanton, who has been with the Fisher Cats since 2005, also won the 2007 Double-A Sports Turf Manager of the Year Award, presented by Minor League Baseball and the Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA). Before joining the Fisher Cats' staff, the Packwood, WA native spent three seasons working with the Los Angeles Dodgers and one season with the Tacoma Rainiers of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League.
Blanton, who earned his Associates in Applied Arts and Science Degree in Turfgrass Management from Walla Walla Community College, has worked in the sports turf industry for the past eight years. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the New England Sports Turf Managers Association and is also an active member in the National Sports Turf Managers Association.
Eric is joined on his staff by Assistant Turf Manager Brian Schools, Glenn Monnelly, Dennis Livoli, George Maclellan and Ken Harrington.
The Fisher Cats open their final three-game homestand of the season this Tuesday night, August 26, against the Binghamton Mets at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. The first 1,500 fans on hand for the 7:05pm game receive FREE Beach Towels, courtesy of Executive Health and Sports Center & NH Sportsplex.
