
Jackals Win 4-2 in Fight Fest

Dayton, OH- The Elmira Jackals picked up the weekend sweep and two crucial points tonight when they beat the Dayton Bombers 4-2 in front of 4,668 at the Nutter Center. Brendan Connolly netted two goals and Derek Couture had a two point night in a rowdy fight filled contest. The Jackals return to First Arena on Tuesday for a match up with the Trenton Devils at 7:05 p.m.
After scoring the game winning goal in his first game as a pro last night, Brendan Connolly struck again 8:13 into the first period tonight. Colton Yellow Horn and Derek Couture would again assist on the tic-tac-toe play. The Jackals had superb goal keeping from Michael Teslak in the first period as he turned away all 10 Dayton shots while Dayton keeper Paul Drew made 10 saves on 11 shots on goal. The Jackals extended the lead to 2-0 on Brendan Connolly's second of the game. The power play tally 20 seconds into the second period was assisted by Colton Yellow Horn and Paul McIlveen. Midway through the second the Saturday night fights would break out. Fighting majors were assessed at the 7:09 mark to Jackals skaters; Kaleb Betts, Wes Cunningham, Guillaume Lepine, Derek Couture and Mike Sgroi. Dayton skaters, Bittle, Dougherty and Gaudet also received fighting majors. The Bombers took full advantage of a five minute, five on three power play. The Bombers struck at the 8:23 mark with Les Reaney's 31st point of the year. Dayton then tied the game at 2-2 with a Ryan Smyth tally at the 10:46 mark. After the fun filled second period the Bombers held a 26-21 shot advantage.
It was all Jackals and Teslak in the final frame. At 8:36 of the third Derek Couture would net his third goal of the weekend when he beat Paul Drew with the help of Pierre-Luc Faubert. The Jackals added an insurance goal at the 13:06 mark, Craig Switzers' second of the season. Johnson and Tomko assisted on the play. Teslak remained tough in the third period turning away all nine Dayton shots to finish with 33 saves on the evening.
With the win the Jackals improve to 33-24-1-4 while the Bombers fall to 28-30-2-3.
