Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - In a Friday night match-up the Victoria Salmon Kings and Ontario Reign met in the second of a four-game set. Goaltender Todd Ford started in net for the Salmon Kings, while the Reign countered with Jeff Zatkoff.

The Reign opened the scoring on the power play, 7:48 into the first period. Bud Holloway notched his 10th goal of the season, taking the puck down the right side of the offensive zone and snuck a wrist shot over Ford's glove and into the corner of the net. The Salmon Kings tied the game on a power play goal of their own. At 9:35, Sean O'Connor converted a cross-crease pass from Matt Kelly. O'Connor's goal was his 17th of the season. Ontario regained the lead just 16 seconds later when Doug Spooner converted his first goal as a professional off a Tim Kraus rebound. The Reign took a two goal lead at 14:59 on a similar play. Dale Reinhardt put a puck off Ford that bounced right to Jon Rheault, who had no problem in converting his 15th goal of the season. The first period would end with the Reign leading 3-1.

The Salmon Kings pulled to within one when O'Connor scored his second of the game and 18th of the season. O'Connor stuffed his own rebound through Zatkoff at 10:07 to make it 3-2 Reign. The goal was also O'Connor's 100th of his professional career. The Salmon Kings second goal was the lone marker of the middle frame, as the teams skated into the second intermission with Ontario leading 3-2.

Ontario regained their two goal lead 3:39 into the third period. Holloway took a Reinhardt pass and fired a point shot that eluded Ford on the blocker side. Holloway's goal was his second of the night and 11th of the season. Just under a minute later, at 4:23, Wes Goldie pulled the Kings back within one goal when he kept the puck on a two-on-one with Darryl Lloyd and fired home his 45th goal of the season over the right shoulder of Zatkoff. The Salmon Kings staged a late flurry in the last minute of play with the extra attacker, but could not convert. Reign 4 Salmon Kings 3.

Victoria finished 1/4 = 25.0% on the power play, while Ontario finished 2/5= 40.0%. The Salmon Kings outshot the Reign 43-23.
