
Bombers Battle Elmira, Fall 4-2

Dayton, OH - In one of the most action-packed games of the season, the Dayton Bombers fell to the Elmira Jackals 4-2 at the Ervin J. Nutter Center in front of 4,668 fans on Saturday night.
The Jackals went up 1-0 midway through the first period when Brendan Connolly scored his second goal of the year. Shots on goal favored Elmira with a slight 11-10 advantage in the frame.
Action heated up in the second as Connolly put in his second goal of the night past the Bombers' Paul Drew a mere 20 seconds into the period. Fists would fly at the 7:09, resulting in a combined 97 penalty minutes. The Bombers would end up on a five minute 5-on-3 as a result of the altercation. Les Reaney was the first to cut the lead to 2-1, taking a feed from Joe Van Culin and Nino Musitelli at 8:23. A few minutes later Ryan Smyth would net his 16th of the year from Matt Auffrey and Kelly Perrault, still on the power play, to even the score at two. The Bombers outshot the Jackals 16-10 in the second.
Reaney had the chance to take the lead for the Bombers on a penalty shot one minute into the third, but was denied by Elmira's Michael Teslak. Elmira, however, regained the lead on Derek Couture's 6th goal of the season. The Jackals got back their two-goal lead at 13:04 on the third from Craig Switzer.
Drew was 27 of 31 in net for the Bombers for the , while Teslak went 33 of 35 for Elmira. The Bombers were 2 of 5 on the power play and 5 of 6 on the penalty kill.
The Bombers will next face the Wheeling Nailers on the road on Friday, March 20, before returning to the Miami Valley. Action heads north to Troy's historic Hobart Area for back-to-back games on Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22 against the Gwinnett Gladiators.
