February 12, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Elmira Jackals News Release

ELMIRA, NY - The Elmira Jackals, proud member of the ECHL, announced today that they have acquired center Igor Pohanka (poh-HAHN-kuh) from the Augusta Lynx in exchange for left wing Dan Kronick. The trade is the second for the Jackals in the last five days after picking up right wing Maxime Lincourt from Bakersfield in exchange for future considerations last Friday.

Pohanka, 24, is a former second round pick (44th overall) of the New Jersey Devils in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. In 36 games this season with the Lynx, Pohanka registered eight goals and 20 assists for 28 points with 37 penalty minutes and an even +/- rating.

During his five-year professional career, Pohanka has appeared in 216 games in the ECHL, American and Central Hockey Leagues and totaled 38 goals and 64 assists for 102 points. His best offensive campaign came in the 2005-06 season with the Portland Pirates (AHL), the top affiliate of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, when he scored 35 points (24 assists) in 67 games.

In his three-year major junior career in the Western Hockey League, all with Prince Albert, Pohanka picked up 173 points in 186 games with the Raiders. In 2001-02, he led the club in scoring with 68 points thanks to a team-high 43 assists while pacing Prince Albert in goals (25) in 2002-03 and ranking second in club scoring with 56 points.

Kronick skated in 19 games with the Jackals after coming to Elmira in a December 20th trade with Florida (ECHL). The rookie winger scored six goals and had eight assists with the Jackals after posting just one assist in 13 games with the Everblades.

Pohanka is expected to join the club Wednesday and be available for action Thursday when Elmira kicks off a four-game home stand, hosting the league-leading Texas Wildcatters Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at First Arena.
