Fresno Falcons News Release
Victoria, British Columbia - Brady Leisenring tallied a hat trick, but the Victoria Salmon Kings forced overtime late in regulation, and then won in the extra session, defeating the Fresno Falcons 6-5 on Tuesday in front of 4,291 fans at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre.
The Falcons scored the lone goal of the first period 4:07 into the contest. Luke Curtin picked up a loose puck on the left-wing side of the Victoria zone, and centered into the slot for Leisenring, who beat goaltender Billy Thompson with a wrist shot to the stick side.
Victoria pulled even 4:36 into the second period on a Ryan Wade wrist shot from the right-wing circle, then took the lead just 55 second later as Milan Gajic pushed the rebound of a Jordan Krestanovich shot past Kris Mayotte.
The Salmon Kings weren't done yet, as Wes Goldie added a power-play goal at 10:36, and Darryl Lloyd scored on a shot from the high slot at 17:12 to give Victoria a 4-1 lead.
But, the Falcons came back with a goal just 33 seconds after Lloyd's goal to make it a 4-2 game after 40 minutes. Joe Grimaldi's shot from the blue line was redirected past Thompson by Kenny Bernard for his seventh goal of the year.
Leisenring scored his second goal of the night, on a power play, 31 seconds into the third period, making it a one-goal game. John Morlang centered the puck in front for Leisenring who beat Thompson high to the glove side.
Leisenring capped his hat trick, and tied the game at 4 at 11:16, batting the rebound of a P.O. Beaulieu shot out of midair past Thompson for his 16 goal of the year.
Mike Ramsay put Fresno back on top with his 11th goal of the season at 15:24 of the third. Ramsay took a drop pass from Bernard at the top of the right-wing circle, and beat Thompson to the five hole giving the Falcons a 5-4 lead.
Patrick Coulombe forced overtime with his fifth goal of the season at 19:09 of the third period, sneaking a shot past Mayotte from the left-wing circle.
Victoria wasted no time in overtime, as Dylan Yeo set up Ash Goldie on the near post, and he roofed a shot over Mayotte's glove 19 seconds into the extra session to give the Salmon Kings the win.
The Falcons return to action on Monday, hosting the Stockton Thunder in a President's Day Matinee at 1:00 p.m. The first 2,000 fans in attendance receive a Freddie Falcon for President bobblehead, courtesy of Little Caesar's, ABC 30, and 93.7 KISS Country.
