Florida Everblades News Release

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (26-19-4) used three second period goals in a span of one minute, 49 seconds and another stellar performance by goaltender Justin Peters to overpower the Augusta Lynx (25-21-4) on Tuesday night at Germain Arena in front of a crowd of 6,021. With the win the Everblades moved back into sole possession of fourth place in the South Division race.

Peters turned in a solid effort stopping 30 of 31 shots and holding the Lynx off the scoreboard until the 12:56 mark of the third period. For the second straight game, and fourth time this season Peters was also called upon to face a penalty shot, this time stopping Lynx forward Matt Christie at 3:39 of the first period to keep the game scoreless. Peters has now stopped all four penalty shots he has faced this season.

Meanwhile offensively, the Everblades jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Augusta could find the back of the net. J.B. Bitter opened the scoring with the only first period goal. With 3:45 remaining in the opening period and Augusta on the power play Bitter intercepted a pass at center ice then raced past the Lynx defenders before firing a wrist shot between the pads of Augusta goaltender Gerald Coleman for his fourth goal of the season. The short-handed marker was the second of the season for Bittner and the seventh for the Everblades.

The 1-0 lead held for the Everblades until the midpoint of the second period when the Blades exploded for three goals in the span of 1:49. Everblades leading scorer Derek Damon began the barrage with his 19th goal of the season at 11:40. Damon's goal came off a strong effort by Kirk MacDonald, who tried to split a pair of Augusta defenders. After getting squeezed out of the play, MacDonald kicked the puck free in the left circle where Damon let a quick wrist shot fly that sailed past Coleman. Jarret Lukin added the second assist on the tally.

Just 56 second later Brandon Roach uncorked a slap shot from the top of the right circle that blasted through traffic and into the net at 12:36. The goal was Roach's 10th of the season and was assisted by Lukin and Brad Herauf. The trio of second period tallies was capped off at 13:29 when Brett Peterson finished off a 2-on-1 rush with Damon. Damon carried the puck to the bottom of the right circle before throwing the disc across the front of the net. Despite getting a piece of the puck, Coleman couldn't control it, and Peterson at the left post swept it into the net for his second goal of the season. Preston Callander added the second assist.

Holding a 4-0 lead entering the third period, the Everblades kept the pressure on and eventually extended their lead to five at 8:42 when Lukin cashed in for his fifth goal of the season. Ernie Hartlieb began the play behind the Augusta net, feeding a pass to David Cornacchia in the left corner. The veteran defenseman then slid a pass to the top of the crease where Lukin waited uncontested before snapping a shot over the blocker of Coleman.

The Lynx registered their lone goal on a ricochet off Everblades defenseman Brad Brown's skate. Peters stopped the initial shot by Adrian Veideman, but the rebound kicked off to his left where it hit the skate of Brown and slid across the goal line.

Peters improved his record to 18-10-2, while Coleman fell to 1-2-0 after allowing the five goals on 45 shots.

On the power play, the Everblades closed out night 0-for-3, while the Lynx finished 0-for-4.
