Salmon Kings Fall To Falcons

The Victoria Salmon Kings and Fresno Falcons met at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre last night in the first of a two game set.

Fresno got on the board first when Igor Gongalsky intercepted a pass and beat Victoria netminder Julien Ellis with a backhand. Wes Goldie would tie the game up for the Kings when he beat goaltender Kris Mayotte. It was 1-1 after one period of play.

Fresno came on strong in the second and was rewarded. Brady Liesenring notched the 2-1 goal when he snapped a shot from the hash marks past Ellis on the power play. P.O. Beaulieu made it 3-1 when he was able to put a third whack at a rebound past Ellis. Fresno held a 3-1 after forty minutes.

The Kings came out and drew to within one when Kevin Estrada burst down the right side and wired a shot past Mayotte. Victoria continued to apply pressure throughout the third period, including hitting a post in the period's final seconds, but could not tie the game. Falcons 3 Salmon Kings 2. Salmon Kings went 1/9=11.1% on the power play and the Condors went 1/4=25%. Victoria outshot Fresno 40-30.

The Salmon Kings and Fresno meet Tuesday night at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Call 220-7889 for tickets.
