Elmira Jackals News Release

ELMIRA, NY - Chris Langkow, Allan McPherson and Cason Hohmann combined for eight points tonight at First Arena, but the Jackals fell to the Reading Royals in the final home meeting with their East Division rival this season. Mark Bennett also scored for the Jackals in the 5-3 defeat.

The Royals started the scoring at 7:44 of the opening period as Nikita Kashirsky scored off a feed from below the goal line from Joey Sides. Ian Watters also assisted Kashirsky's 10th goal of the season. Four minutes later former Jackal Yannick Tifu tucked in his 12th goal of the season to double the Royals lead. Late in the first frame the Jackals received a power-play opportunity but a turnover at the offensive blue line led to Scott Tanski's shorthanded marker sending the Jackals into the first intermission down 3-0.

The Jackals stormed out quickly in the second period scoring just 50 seconds into the frame. Allan McPherson started the play by moving the puck to Jacob MacDonald who fed it across the offensive zone to Cason Hohmann and he quickly played the puck into the slot for Chris Langkow's seventh goal of the season. Less than two minutes later the Royals regained their three-goal lead with Brandon Alderson's wrap-around marker at 2:47. C.J. Motte was pulled after the Royals fourth goal and Alain Valiquette entered the game, making his professional debut. The Jackals responded later in the frame with a successful penalty kill which turned into a three-on-two rush and Mark Bennett, who was serving the team penalty, buried a one-time cross-ice feed from Allan McPherson for his seventh goal of the campaign. Chris Langkow also earned an assist on Bennett's goal. However, with 27 seconds remaining in the second period, the Royals countered again as Pavel Padakin recorded his seventh goal of the season. Chris Langkow dropped the gloves with Ian Watters at the end of the second period completing his Gordie Howe hat trick.

Chris Langkow earned the lone goal of the third period at 15:50 with his second goal of the night and eighth of the season by receiving a feed from Cason Hohmann in the slot for a quick one-timer. Allan McPherson also earned his third assist of the night on Langkow's marker.

C.J. Motte stopped 16 of 20 shots faced in 22:47 of work and was handed the loss. Alain Valiquette turned aside 22 of 23 shots faced in relief duty. Martin Ouellette stopped 40 of 43 shots faced to earn the win.
